About Kentech MovieOur vision is to build a leading future energy research university, in strategic alliance with global energy industry leaders and research centers
KENTECH is committed to becoming a hub and open platform by hosting global energy research centers and energy start-ups in our campus-based energy clusters, where participating stakeholders may share research resources and their achievements through the integrated efforts of future energy inventions and innovations. With 1,000 students and 100 faculty in 2025 at a full scale, Our goal is to build ourselves as a small-sized but intellectually strong university, with an emphasis on performing energy development R&D and growing future entrepreneurs. At the initial stage, KENTECH plans to host large national energy research facilities to create industry-academic cooperation clusters on campus, so that this energy powerhouse may be able to help the energy industry utilize and capitalize on their R&D results, making significant contribution to create more jobs at the marketplace. KENTECH’s academic goal by 2050 is to join a group of the global top 10 engineering schools.
In 2017, the project to establish an energy research-focused university was introduced as part of the Korea’s "Five-Year Plan for State Administration.” This initiative led to the approval of establishment of a non-profit educational foundation in April 2020, and subsequently, to the enactment of the Special Law in March 2021 by the Korean National Assembly to create the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH), the first global university that is solely focused on energy research and technology In May 2021, KENTECH President was appointed by its board of directors, and the university's registration process was legally completed. With the beginning of historic groundbreaking ceremony on June 1, the infrastructure of this institution are under construction on the campus premises, consisting of 400,000 square meters of land area and 155,500 square meters of building floor areas. The core theme of the campus design is to build a smart campus integrating state-of-the-art facilities by introducing zero-carbon energy and eco-friendly technologies.
